Company Profile
Our ambition is to be a leading manufacturer of high end yoyos leveraging cutting edge technology and to test potentials in related industries. We want to be recognized as a leading promoter and developer of the global yoyoing community and of yoyoing technology, and we want to to bring yoyoing to a large and growing segment of people worldwide.
In a train from Baden to Lausanne in Switzerland in 1997, Chris Kayatz was talking to three of his friends about a yoyo prototype he had in mind and wanted to produce it. Soon everyone wanted to finance the pilot batch and a few weeks later, HSPIN was founded. The first yoyo, the HandQuake 1.4 was produced in 1998. After successfully operating as yoyo designer, HSPIN was incorporated in 2006 as Limited Liability Company.
HSPIN is involved in the following steps in the value chain:
- Technical development, design and testing
- Production
- Distribution and Sales to both retailers and end users
- Sponsoring and hands-on support of contests
- Contribution and shaping of the online community (forums, blogging, podcasts)
- Digital collaborative product development with the HSPIN NETWORK
HSPIN is not the main occupation for any of the involved shareholders. The members of the LLC pursue unrelated careers in management consulting, politics, law and media. To manage the workload of a small enterprise, a few highly skilled outsourcing partners were hand-picked, including DHL Logistics, an aluminum CNC machining specialist and a social business for the integration of individuals with disabilities for assembly.
HSPIN has contributed to modern yoyo technology with several innovations.
We were
1st to use spacers to adjust gap width (HandQuake 1.4)
1st to use bimetallic technology to use a higher density metal for weight rings (HandQuake 1.4)
1st to produce a metal yoyo with recessed pads as stock option (Good & Evil 2)
1st to produce a metal yoyo with the bearing seated on the halves, not the axle (Pyro)
1st to produce a metal yoyo with advanced laser engravings also gap-side (PYRO)
1st to announce and show prototypes of an "H-profile" yoyo (ENVY)
1st to invite players to a distributed co-creation platform to design yoyos (HSPIN NETWORK)
The first yoyo carrying the name of "HSPIN" was produced in 1998. Today, HSPIN has registered players in more than 50 countries, has produced more than twenty yoyo models, works with 30 active and 20 passive retail partners and has sponsored more than a hundred contests worldwide.
HSPIN is registered as GmbH in Zurich, Switzerland.
