HSpin ICON - Review | YoYoSkills.com

Before the use of computers, the word Icon had a completely different meaning. An icon was a visual representation of an idea, or culture. To say something was Iconic was to say that something was a representation of an idea or location; Such as the Statue of Liberty, the Eifel Tower, Chuck Norris or Neil Patrick Harris. HSpin, a company known for unique designs and impressive graphics, has been the long time sponsor of Stefan “Magl33to” Benjamin, and has finally honored him with a signature yo-yo. The ICON has been in development for a while and after an unveiling at the European Yo-Yo Meet, feedback has been rolling in.

Todoyoyo interviews Hadrien Bennaceur

I made an interview to Hadrien Bennaceur for my blog (todoyoyo.com), but it's a spanish blog and many people can't read spanish. I find it very interesting, so decided to publish it here in english, so anyone can read it easier. Hope you like it!

Todoyoyo: After EYYC you left Caribou Team to join HSpin Network. You said it was an oportunity you couldnt miss. What about that?

Hadrien: As some of you know, I'm a student in mechanical and industrial engineering, that involves a lot of physics and a lot of calculus. Also I learnt how to draw and how to use cad software. That's how I started drawing yoyos for myself, eventhough I was not a great player, I enjoyed using my knowledge in yoyoing.

One of the dreams I had while playing yoyo was making my own yoyo and I was able to achieve that goal in 2008 at my school, where I programmed and set the lathe to make a first, very basic but very playable yoyo. Then I had to change school, and I found myself with no way to make yoyos again, so I just looked around but couldn't find any machinist motivated enough to start a big yoyo project.

I had the chance to join CLYW at WYYC 2009.Playing for them was an honor and I'm sad I didn't spent more time with them, but what Hspin offered me couldn't be refused. After EYYC is was disappointed by the results and judging system, i felt like i was not rewarded for the tricks i did on stage
and so i thought "why compete if it s for nothing..." Then I had a conversation with Christopher Kayatz, about what yoyoing means to me, about my dreams and ideas. From that talk emerged something big for me. Something that no other could give me, something that, as a engineer student and yoyo enthousiast I could never say no to.

Unnamed Hadrien's Prototype

Over the last week-end we received the first prototypes of Hadrien's yoyo!

this yoyo is a brand new type of Hspin yoyo, and it brings some new features that we are pretty sure you ll like!

this is the first yoyo that comes with a pads recess deep enough for the flowable silicone to last long, and we love how the response feel!

we still need to perfect it a bit for you, so be patient!

you can already check pictures on Hadrien's facebook page

ICON ready to ship in June!

icon_both

I am very excited to say that the ICON is expected to ship at the beginning of June 2010. We recommend you to start screening your favourite retailer's online shop for its arrival, where you will be able to obtain both the red and the gold option.
Alternatively, you can acquire the gold version from hspin.com here.

Price: USD 59

Magl33To's PREFERENCES: This yoyo marks the debut of a new era. HSPIN NETWORK members will influence the design of our yoyos more than ever, and more than most manufacturers allow players to contribute. This particular yoyo is based on the preferences of MagL33To from the UK. The design of the ICON logo is courtesy of Simmy, also from the UK.

NEW COATING FOR CORE SERIES YOYOS: The ICON will see the release of the new coating for our Core Series yoyos, that allows for maximum smoothness to the touch. The finish is much smoother than that of the BeySick and has proven to be excellent for all kinds of grinds.

POLISHED GAP SIDE: While the coating *is* indeed great, the bead blasting on it could be tough on your strings. The good news is that we're taking care of that for you! We decided to go the extra mile and to polish the gap-side of this yoyo. You will immediatly notice the shiny inner side and be safe in the knowledge that your strings are secure.

Enjoy and play like L33To!

String-centering, large bearings ("Update while working on new PYRO and other models")

HSPIN's custom-made V-shape bearing

While we are working on the design of the next generation PYRO and the signature yoyo for Plamek, I wanted to update you on the custom-made bearing we are going to provide these yoyos with (see Hadrien's post http://www.hspin.com/webpage/?q=node/2810).

Our Swiss-made high end series of yoyos (like the two above) will sport large bearings. Not only that, they will also have a string-centering V-shaped outer race. V-shaped bearings are standard in other industrial applications, however, this size is custom made for HSPIN, 5x13x5.

String-centering bearings have been around for a while and in different shapes (Konkave from Difeyo, Grooved from e.g. Born Crucial, and center-track from Central Bearing/YYF). V-Shaped is the shape we believe in most (more pronounced center and faster centering... but let's not get lost in details).

Using string-centering bearings has an impact on the yoyos responsiveness: The yoyos are less responsive, and more evenly less responsive, which also reduces risk of snagging. In turn, the yoyos need firmer binding.

You'll love the new designs we are working on. Hadrien has been a tremendous support in updating the new PYRO and shaping Plamek's signature yoyo, prototypes for both exist as of this week. We are contemplating whether to ship the yoyos with two bearings, both flat and V-shaped, to give players an option, but that will earliest be in summer/fall 2010.

Keeping you posted,

ChrisK

PYYYYYYYYYYYYYROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Some of you already knows (if you are a facebook fan of Hspin llc), but i have been working on reviving one of the best yoyo ever made, the pyro.

the pyro was my very first metal yoyo, if i remember correctly it was the first yoyo to have a complex bearing seat that every metal yoyo has today, and it was also one of the first to push the boundaries of the lazer engravings further with an insane flame work.

well as the new hspin designer, i HAD to bring the pyro back to competitors' flavor.

so here is a first picture!

smaller diameter than the original, same width, same famous pyro hub (slightly smaller for a better weight distribution), large V-shaped bearing, Silicone pads (AND CAN ACCEPT FLOWABLE SILICONE), this version is made to please all the players of today, whether you are a hardcore competitors or a yoyo enthousiast

more informations should come soon :)

ps: this is NOT the final color scheme, also the FLAMES aren't displayed :)

First pictures of Hadrien Bennaceur 's Signature serie

Greetings from france!

during the last days i enjoyed meeting a lot of people at the EYYM in London, I also got the chance to receive those two pictures about our machinist friend :)

those show only the first part of the machining process which is machining the inside hub and the first radiuses of the outer profile.

i am truly amazed about how they managed to machine such a unusual hub, i thought it was gonna be difficult, but they made it!

i hope you are as excited as i am :)
