Spring 2012 release: BEYOND ENVY (Limited Edition)

Back with "estravaganza"!

This clarifies it: HSPIN has no intention to turn out the lights as many of you speculate. Quite the opposite. Fewer an more extravagant eruptions of creativity is what you shall see.

After summer 2010, Spencer Berry and I recapped his observations and synthesis from Worlds. One thing he told me was that many players had shared with him that they were missing "HSPIN's extravagant, weird creations from previous years".

This lead me to solidify thoughts that had been fermenting in my brain for a while, and to the changes you have seen recently. HSPIN got famous because of the class-of-its-own, odd yoyo designs such as the ENVY, PYRO or Good&Evil releases. Recent efforts to cater to actively competing yoyo players resulted in frustration, cost and less success. I was running after others' preferences rather than protecting the HSPIN that HSPIN once was.

The BEYOND ENVY is the first release that brings HSPIN back on track. I scribbled the drawings on a pieces of paper during a phone conversation in fall 2010, then took a picture of it with my Blackberry and mailed it to Had for conversion to CAD format. Prototypes were shown with great success during EYYC 2011 in the Czech Republic.

Expect solid ChrisK-style yoyo design... this one is a limited edition playing like a slim, large bearing yoyo, uncompromisingly precision-machined and assembled in Switzerland. Changes since previous versions include raw gap-side finish, "edgy" design in all aspects, large bearing, K-pad response (thanks Had) and a return to hard-core H-profile.

35 pieces per color option only. Available soon.

Specs:
Weight: 63.7g
Diameter: 54.0mm
Width: 35.0mm
Gap: 4 mm
Bearing: 13mm
Response: K-pads

Phoenix

Phoenix, Plamek signature yoyo

The Phoenix is the signature yoyo we made for the legendary Plamek. The phoenix is the bird resurrecting from the ashes... and if you ask Plamek, he can explain the significant link. Plamek won 3rd place at the European Yoyo Contest 2011 with the Phoenix. We feel that is all that needs to be said.

...and then came the day when you had your personal PYRO III

Flames of the PYRO III

The first PYRO was released for Christmas 2005, it hit our community like an earthquake. It was a quantum leap ahead of other yoyos on the market.

The PYRO III is the continuation of the PYRO series yoyo legend. It embodies the same design principles, with a significant update to today's playing style preferences (including large bearing and flowable silicone response). 149 pieces produced only. Owning a yoyo of this batch is more than just owning a world class top definition Swiss made metal yoyo. You're part of a legend.

NVx (3rd generation H-profile yoyos)

Both NVx versions

It's been quite a journey. I am still proud we were the first to show photos of the ENVY, the first H-profile yoyo shown, in 2007 online. It divided the community into two parts: Some loved the extravagant new shape, some hated it. From today's perspective, I appreciate either side's perspective as a lot was discussed.

When the Hspin Envy was first introduced, it showed the world the true meaning of being an H-Shaped yo-yo. Not one to sit back and relax we took that iconic shape and ramped it up for the next generation of players, and the NVx was born. The edges have been smoothed and rounded, more weight has been pushed to the rims, and the response was overhauled. The result was a no compromise, competition grade yo-yo sure to cause jealousy in others. When you play an NVx you will make the competition green with envy.

H-profile: The core idea of the typical H-profile is to maximize stability. In many of today's tricks, the string does not always exert vertical forces, but pulls the yoyo to the side. The H-profile is as resistant as only few others against such forces.

Weight: 65.9g

The CUT

Purple CUT

The Cut is the no nonsense, no compromise yo-yo of choice embraced by many on the Hspin competition team. The unique look impresses while sitting still but it is the quickness on the string and the way The Cut slices through the air will surely please. If you are looking for a yo-yo that performs with surgical precision, look no further than The Cut.

Genuine Spin yoyos

gs_logo.png

My name is Spencer Berry, and this is the first of, hopefully, many musings. Chris and I met in an elevator at the world contest many years ago, and since have carried a slow but enthusiastic conversation via email and telephone. I have been playing yo-yo since 2000, participating in few competitions but present in a slew of video projects. I was an original Duncan Crew Member from 2001-08, and now study filmmaking in San Francisco, CA. I am not a businessman or a profiteer, instead I play yo-yo, quite selfishly, for myself and my own creative pursuits. The yo-yo community, to me, should put people before the dollar and friendships before elitism. That being said, I am quite opinionated and am through writing about myself. -- Spencer Berry

Save Deth G&E4

sd2.jpg

Seth and Dave were very fond of our GOOD & EVIL 4 release yoyo and asked me for a limited edition using their Save Deth theme. Save Deth determined colors and artwork... and they requested a special bearing which would narrow the gap and thereby changed the behavior of the yoyo slightly during throws(less perceived "kick back").

The result is one of the most vibrantly looking nice playing yoyos our community has seen. Only at Save Deth.
